Statistical Sign Language Translation
Abstract In the field of machine translation, significant progress has been made by using statistical methods. In this paper we suggest a statistical machine translation system for Sign Language and written language, especially for the language pair German Sign Language (DGS) and German. After introducing the system’s architecture, statistical machine translation in general and notation systems...
متن کاملSign language machine translation overkill
Sign languages represent an interesting niche for statistical machine translation that is typically hampered by the scarceness of suitable data, and most papers in this area apply only a few, well-known techniques and do not adapt them to small-sized corpora. In this paper, we will propose new methods for common approaches like scaling factor optimization and alignment merging strategies which ...
متن کاملLanguage Resources for Spanish - Spanish Sign Language (LSE) translation
This paper describes the development of a Spanish-Spanish Sign Language (LSE) translation system. Firstly, it describes the first Spanish-Spanish Sign Language (LSE) parallel corpus focused on two specific domains: the renewal of the Identity Document and Driver’s License. This corpus includes more than 4,000 Spanish sentences (in these domains), their LSE translation and a video for each LSE s...
متن کاملSpoken Language Processing Techniques for Sign Language Recognition and Translation
We present an approach to automatically recognize sign language and translate it into a spoken language. A system to address these tasks is created based on state-ofthe-art techniques from statistical machine translation, speech recognition, and image processing research. Such a system is necessary for communication between deaf and hearing people. The communication is otherwise nearly impossib...
متن کاملBidirectional American Sign Language to English Translation
In the US alone, there are approximately 900,000 hearingimpaired people whose primary mode of conversation is sign language. For these people, communication with non-signers is a daily struggle, and they are often disadvantaged when it comes to finding a job, accessing health care, etc. There are a few emerging technologies designed to translate sign language to English in real time, but most o...
